Stupid Tax

Ok... Tonight when I was out for a walk, I saw that the lottery was up to $140 million. Now I'm educated enough to know that my chances of winning are soooo small to be insignificant. Many of the people I know consider the lottery and scratch tickets to be 'Stupid Tax' as you're just throwing your money away.

Which I totally agree with. HOWEVER when the lottery gets over 50 million dollars, I often spend $5 for a quick pick. Right now I'm poor so that 5 bucks could've gone to a meal, a comic or two, or other useful stuff. I will sort of miss that 5 bucks

BUT isn't it worth 5 bucks every so often for a teeny tiny chance of something better? I mean granted the 'dream' only lasts a day at most for me, from the time I buy the ticket til I find out I lost.... but I feel for the idea of getting 50 mill( one lump sum, after taxes) is worth it...

I could be wrong. But I don't gamble a whole lot and I know a lot of people who also buy a ticket or two once that prize gets up there. So I might be stupid but I'm not the only one- and I'm not the stupidest as the day I quit I didn't take all the money out of my bank account and buy scratch tickets. ;-)

And who knows- maybe tomorrow when I go to the quickie mart and check the numbers I'll be a millionaire.
