One event- two different stories....
I'm beginning to get the hang of this whole blue/red state.
Something happens and you get TWO different stories. It doesn't matter what the facts are- because the facts depend on whether you're a democrat or a republican. blue or red stater. metro or retro.
The above could be about WMDs, Social Security or Affirmative Action.
In this case it's about an 'urban legend' I just read about.
Now the Urban Legends page( linked above) says the legend is TRUE... because there is a kernel of truth in the Christian mass mailing.
A bunch of Christians got arrested for yelling at a bunch of gays, who did NOT get arrested.
That's the truth, that's what happened. However that's not the whole truth. If you just read the fact that this legend is true, you miss the underlying lie.
See the mass mailing that the Christians put out mention just once, and try to down play it, the people who were arrested were preaching during a GAY PARADE. They don't even admit that the arrested were AT the parade, stating that they were "near Outfest".
Ok, being a Jew it's not that hard for me to imagine how utterly obnoxious these Christians must've been. They must've been telling the gays how THEIR God is going to send the gays to H-E-L-L. Naturally the parade goers got pissed and the Christians incited a riot. So the police arrested the Christians for the first time. Bravo.
The facts also need fact checking as odds are these guys are not going to serve the maximum of 47 years... and odds are aren't even going to see the inside of a jail cell. Just because you COULD be charged with 47 years doesn't mean the judge is going to do it.. if the federal government doesn't give him 'guidelines'( ie mandatory sentences, like in drug cases.)
This just gets me... as the same Christians constantly think the LAW should reflect ONLY their beliefs- when as a 'fellow' American I think that killing someone means you can't argue you're PRO LIFE, that two guys in Texas should be allowed to enjoy themselves in the privacy of their own home, and that Quakers should be allowed in Ma.
