Roof over head

I've been depressed for most of today.

There was a sci fi con going on today. A friend of mine rented a room and had a party tonight. I decided not to go because all I would do was drink beer and mope, and I didn't really want to depress a roomful of people.

The same friend who is having the party also is only so so at getting me out of my moods. He often points out 'well it could be worse' which while I agree with him, doesn't really do it. Yes, I'm happy that I'm not blind or that I wasn't killed in the tsunami, or that I'm not stationed in Iraq... but that doesn't really make me HAPPY.

However, I was about to go to bed- and I looked out at my window and saw the snow coming down... and I felt I should find it somewhere in my heart or brain to be happy that I have a roof over my head, heat, electricity and other basic life amenities. I'm not saying after this realization I became the happiest person on the face of the Earth, just I realize that I don't have the MOST to gripe about and thus am most likely NOT the most depressed person around.

There are things in my life for me to be happy about- not what I consider a lot but enough to make life worth living. And that's the important thing.
