The Bruce...

Well Bruce Campbell was in Brookline on Tuesday to sign his book and to show his movie- the man with the screaming brain.

Even though I got my ticket( and those for a friend) AGES ago, I didn't get to the theater til about 1/2 hour before the signing. This is because I was thinking of forgoing dinner as I didn't want to BUY food between the signing and the movie. Then while going through my wallet, I noticed I had a free sandwich coming to me from bruegger's bagels. See they have one of those buy X, get one free and since I don't eat there as much as I like( I really do like their bagels) I've had this card in my wallet for a while. So I walked about the 1/2 mile to the bruegger's, which could TECHNICALLY be considered on the way to the theater as there's a t stop near it... Got my sandwich and water and went to the signing.

I got there about a 1/2 hour early and talked to the theater people about the set up. See I was about #149 through the doors- as that was the number for my place in the signing. I *knew* my friends couldn't make it to the book signing so wanted to figure out how the seating arrangement for the signing vs. movie. I was told that they would clear the theater out during the two events... Groovy. So I just took a generic seating for the signing as I didn't NEED to see the Bruce for that, though I did try to take two pics of him.

The reading/signing event: He didn't read from the book, he just took a whole bunch of questions. Many of these questions I ended up finding stupid and inane- like someone asking how HE could be an actor. And another person how they could be a writer.
The two most interesting things about the signing was first there seemed to be a crazy woman in the back... though it was debated whether she was actually crazy or a plant. Whenever Bruce would point to that part of the theater to take a question... she'd start babbling.
The other part was Bruce's dislike of Batman Begins. He really came down hard on it, pointing out that he's tired of the Hollywood hack writers who keep rewriting the same darn thing. He ended up comparing Batman Begins to Dukes of Hazzard.
I sighed, because while I'm in general against re-makes, I was glad that they made Batman Begins....
And someone did 'call' him on it asking what he felt about Spiderman TWO. Bruce, of course, switched gears, and pointed out that Sam Rami was a very good friend.

I was a bit worried about being #149, and found a friend from the game store who was number #88. I thought briefly of giving him MY two books( well actually MINE and Evan's) and asking him to get them signed BUT a) I wanted to bask in the glow of the Bruce and b) I was wearing a tshirt from tshirt hell and wanted to get a pic with the Bruce and me wearing it to be in their tshirt hell. See t-shirt hell has a monthly contest and I figure I have a good chance if I have a pic of me and the Bruce with their t-shirt. See in order to win, it appears to me, you either have to have a pic with a celeb OR show your boobs- and I don't really have boobs. If I win, evan of course gets one as he supplied the one I wore.
And while waiting... we got to see Fananalsys- Campbell's documentary about fandom. Pretty good piece of work. And then they showed Bubba Ho-tep with the Elvis commentary.
I got mine and Evan's book signed and got my pic. Unfortunately it cut off the t-shirt. You can see the pic at the bottom... I think Bruce got peeved because I was looking at him and not the camera- hence him pointing at the camera.

Then things sorta fell apart... Basically I went outside, where I found Mike and other friends from the Strat and stayed in what I THOUGHT was the line with them. Then about 5 min. later we're told to FORM a line and where it forms. And mike was like WTF? as they should've mentioned this EARLIER. Fortunately Mike was able to find a friend in line already and we just hung out with him....
Also as part of the bad planning... they didn't roost everyone, so many of the GREAT seats were taken when we came back in. We were able to get 5 seats together, but I wish the event had been a tad better planned.

The man with the Screaming Brain was a grade Z movie. I consider Evil Dead a B movie because Rami overcame his budget $ with the shakey cam and other ideas to make it better. The Man with the Screaming Brain had Stacy Keech and Keech did nothing but tell us the 'science' behind the screaming brain.
So the Bruce might be a fun guy but not the best director around. Sorry. Felt that needed to be said.

Here's the pic. Sadly they cut off the bottom of the t shirt. Also I'm not sure if you can read the hat but it says Cape Cod- from the best potato chips there are, Cape Cod potato chips.
