Die-T!

I've been on the fence about blogging about this, but figured if I was blogging about my life- I should blog about this.

I'm on a diet.

*gasp*

And I'm going to join a gym after I get back from celebrating the New Year with my family.

*double gasp*

Since I'm being totally honest, this 'kick' started about 3 weeks ago with my dad on the cape. My Dad has learnt a very easy lesson- his money buys allot of things. I mentioned I was trying to give up soda, but it was hard as that's where I get my caffeine. My Dad put his money where my mouth was. He offered me X dollars a week if I didn’t drink soda.
Now my first thought was that once again he’s using his money to get what he wants, my second thought was I *want* that there money. I told this ‘deal’ to a couple of friends and they pointed out ‘how is he going to know?’ My dad was betting not only on me kicking the habit BUT of me being honest (as I am more honest then him).
To be frank, I have thought both of lying to him and telling him I feel OFF the wagon a couple of weeks before the next time I saw him… Or of ‘bending the rules’ by not drinking soda but drinking sports drinks… which have around the same sugar/ calorie count.
But for the time being I’ve been caffeine free for the last 3 weeks. Odds are next week when I order a geek shirt- I’ll order some geeky non soda caffeine ‘for emergency use.’ But after the first week of no caffeine, and no real weight loss (which I guess would take longer), I decided to buy some Weight Watchers meals instead of my usual HUNGRY man fro dinners. Last Sunday, I increased the amount of Weight Watchers meals- and save for last night, I’ve been eating them for dinner every night.I think the Weight Watchers meals do their job as they taste great, but leave me wanting more.
As I haven’t lost any real weight (have to weigh myself tomorrow), I’ve told my folks the next step is joining a gym. They’ve offered to split the cost so I’m going to start it next week.

I don’t consider myself FAT, but I am overweight and I could lose a good 40 lbs. So we’ll see what happens. I do feel that taking pro-active measures on my diet, I’m like taking control over more of my life. I mean if I can’t change my job prospects, I can at least take control of my weight.
And then my mom can’t say that I lost a job due to my weight.
;-)

Oh and I'm drinking a good deal more water, which means I'm waking up to go to the bathroom more often.
*bleh*

10/2- just wanted to add, did my weekly weigh in Sunday morning and LOST 3lbs. Pretty happy about that. Thought of having a good/ non Weight Watchers dinner to celebrate but a) will be going off the diet abit this week as I go to NYC for the holiday and B) that would just sorta defeat the diet- two steps forward one step back if I ate a lot of calories to celebrate the fact that I wasn't eating a lot of calories

Weight Watchers is actually a great diet, I did it a couple years ago and the reslts were good. It's an easy diet to maintain and if you manage your points right, it can be pretty satisfying too.

    And congrats on the 3lbs.
