GeeK Games
A while ago I bought Spiderman 2 for the ps2, it was on sale and while I got easily bored with the first Spiderman game... I wanted to check out the second.
It was the *BEST* comic book video game I've ever played.
Now I haven't played EVERY comic book video game, but I've played my fair share. Since starting Spiderman 2, which I haven't finished yet but prolly will eventually, I've compared two Batman games and found them greatly wanting. The two Batman games were Batman Begins (a game I borrowed from a friend) and Batman: Vengeance, which I bought ages ago and never got around to playing until a month ago.
I had two problems with Batman Begins; the first is that it slavishly followed the movie. I loved how in Spiderman you a) got to interact with the city and b) OTHER Spiderman foes like Black Cat appeared. This added to the joy of the game, and helped make the Spiderman experience more full.
The second problem with Batman Begins was the 'special moves', unlike Spiderman where you purchased the moves as you did cool things, in Batman Begins, the special moves were one time only cinematic affairs where you HAD to push the attack button when it flashed on screen. If you missed the flashing, you miss the move.
Batman: Vengeance was purchased because I love the animated series. After playing it for 20 min, I wanted to use it as a Frisbee. Basically the programmers decided that when you wanted to using the grappling hook you'd have first person pov and thus be able to move the camera angle. HOWEVER in normal mode, the camera stays wherever the game wants it to. Which makes it a pain in the rear to perform jumps if you can’t see where you’re jumping? I really don't understand how you can have a decent game without being able to change angles.
I recently checked out the Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and it gets the same Drew Seal of Approval as Spiderman 2.

X-Men Legends is also another Drew Approved game, though I haven't had the money to buy Legends 2 or borrow it from a friend. I wasn't pleased when I found out unlike the first game; characters NOT on missions won't get at least some XP as the game goes on. I liked how the first Legends kept most of the team around the same level. I felt this gave me more flexibility for the team, as I'd be able to use a recently unlocked character to try them out and not worry that they'd lower the skill level of the whole team. I still plan to buy Legends 2, but prolly will wait until it's in the bargain bin.
However the reason I'm blogging about these games... is I want a DECENT DC game. I just listed 3 Marvel games I like (Spidey 2, latest Hulk, and X-men Legends 1) and I don't remember ANY good DC video games.
None. I'd love it if DC got the same people who did Legends to do a JLA game. Or any of the Batman Family in an open level game like Hulk or Spidey. Heck I'd settle for a fighting game ala Capcom's Marvel games with the JLA (I think they did one like that on the Genesis... at a time when Genesis was dead in the water).
I like the DC stable of characters better then Marvel's, but I really feel that DC has in the last few years missed the boat on several fronts while Marvel is making money hand over fist on video games and movies [while Hulk didn't make money for the studio, I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel made money off of it by charging the studio for using their character].
I think there are several hot properties for DC right now; Justice League and Teen Titans due to their cartoons, Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman because of their movies and heck might be interesting to tie in the launch of the new DC.
Please DC talk to some game companies about make a DECENT game- no more Batman Begins or Catwoman[ Never Catwoman]. We fans demand it, and will give you money for it.
