The Face of America: Condi Rice
I was reading the paper today, which is NOT gonna be a good thing for another few months/years, and I read about Condi's confirmation as Secretary of State.
And it hit me, NOBODY'S gonna like us for the next 4 years.
I mean think about it... not ONLY was Powell the go to guy when Bushco wanted 'street creds' because he was a general and had talked to many foreign leaders during Gulf War I, BUT everybody knew he didn't drink the kool-aid. When he sat in front of the UN, he appeared credible because he was used to the chain of command and having to present to leaders reports about enemy strengths and convincing them about the right course of action.
Now erase Powell from that picture and put Condi there.
In her last job, as National Security Advisor- America was attacked for the first time since Dec. 7, 1941, on it's own soil. When she was called to testify in front of Congress about this 'flub', she got her boss(W.) to force congress to deal with a time limit on her face time.... She then tried to stone wall them and run down the clock. Could you imagine at any murder trial if the defense put their client up on the stand BUT limited the amount of time the prosecution had to cross examine him?
Condi is getting this promotion because she does her job well- that job being kissing W.'s butt. She has appeared on shows to tout the party line of how we HAD to attack Saddam because 'we don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud' and other good republican values.
And this is going to be the face that foreign countries are going to see. Instead of sending Powell to try and reason with the Palestinians or Germany- we'll be sending Condi.
