The Future of energy... Coal!
Ok... months ago, W. did a speech where he talked about our 'energy' needs. At NO point did he mention 'energy conservation'- what with us being AT WAR and all.
Nor did he mention 'renewable energy sources' like solar or the hydrogen stuff we constantly hear about.
No, bravely looking to the future of energy he looked BACKWARDS to Nuclear Power and Coal.
Yes, let me repeat that- the ONLY president we've had in the 21st century has suggested that the U.S. rely on COAL for it's energy.
And he wasn't joking.
I know he wasn't joking because a) W. doesn't joke about anything other then WMDs and B) I just saw an ad for COAL.
Yeah. I saw an ad from GE telling me that we have enough coal to last us for 250 years. They also had a bunch of SEXY men and woman mining for the coal to say how SEXY coal is.
The irony of this commercial is the song they have in the background. I hope that the execs just didn't listen because the song they decided to have in the background is 16 tons... The chorus, which you hear in the ad, goes like so:
Is this the message we really want to be sending to the NEXT generation. 'Well gee Lash, back in *MY* day we didn't have to wear air masks EVERY day... We burnt oil which while bad for the environment wasn't AS BAD.' Or worse, do we really want to bring back black lung and other mining problems.
Listen/read the second part of the song- about him getting deeper in debt. Mining Companies were notoriously bad employers- poor working conditions, many work related hazards for a minimum paycheck.
And THAT is what W. is promising us. W.'s answer for the 21st century's energy needs is 19th century technology.
