OCD
Ok... I need to admit that because I have a crappy memory... I have a bit of an OCD problem with my door. See locking my apt. door or the game store door after work, is done almost as an automatic response... I close the door, I lock it and then walk away... forgetting that I had locked the door. Which sometimes leaves me wondering 'DID I LOCK THE DOOR?'
Most of the time I find myself either assuring myself that ONLY ONCE in the past like 5 years, have I actually gone back and found that I hadn't locked the door. But since that once was a couple of months ago, I often find myself going back a block or so and reassuring myself that I locked the door. I think this behaviour borders on the Obsessive, but if I don't remember if I locked the door- I often feel I HAVE to check.
Another 'habit' I have... is I have a massive key chain. I only have about 8 keys- my place, the game store, and one of my mom's locks... but I have several key chains connected to the 'main' key chain. I do this so that I can FEEL the key chain in my pants... Otherwise besides checking to see if I locked the door... I'd be making sure I have my keys. THIS habit proved very useful on my train trip to Conn. on X-mas. See one of my key chains is a little plastic maraca with sand in it that makes a tiny bit of noise... See I had put my keys in my jacket pocket, as I am wont to do. And I put my jacket on the seat next to me- as it was warm on Sunday. So when I heard a noise as I put my jacket on, I looked on the seat and saw my keys.
Naturally this has reinforced in me the importance of the 'feel' of my keys. They need to be heavy and if possible for me to hear them so I know where they are on my person.

As you are with your keys, I am with my wallet--and it really saved me X-mas shopping to be so OCD about it. Sometimes OCD is very good for us
