[pre-script- like last time am logging on in the library, so again apologize for not using a spell check or grammer check in the interest of time constraints]
Computer- I spoke to Alienware yesterday during my lunch. Have YET to get the new hard drive. The conversation was strange- as the customer support person kept interupting me to tell me that I was being rude by swearing and interupting HIM. I finally got to the point where I raised my voice and told him I was looking for TWO bits of information from him- one which he had provided inbetween berating me for being a bad customer.
I wanted to know when to expect my hard drive- another 4 to 5 business days as while it was being shipped Fed Ex, it was currently in Memphis( and had to tell him that I was no where near Memphis)
and TWO how long I had to put in the new hard drive? I made sure he knew I was asking this because I had two jobs- working 6 to 7 days a week( scheduled for 7 days this week...) and that I didn't have the know-how to install the new drive, and so wanted to know my time limit on getting/paying someone else to do this task for me... esp. as I wouldn't be getting the hard drive until much after 5 day deadline I was orginally given.
He put me on hold. I was very happy to be put on hold, as I wanted him to come up with an OFFICAL answer and I wanted to eat more of my pizza.
When he came back on, he was much nicer and told me that Tech Support would call me 24-48 hours after I got my hard drive... I asked why tech support and not customer service as I felt my question was a customer service question. HE told me they were going to call to schedule a time where a technician could come and install my hard drive.
I was like 'for free?'
Customer Service answered- yes for free. And now that I was behaving myself, wasn't I happy with his help?
I felt he was putting the ox before the cart. I was behaving myself and being happy because he had done his job... As I've done customer service for quite some time, I was amazed that he actually told me the customer that I was behaving badly. I've never done that in all my years... I might complain to my co-workers AFTER a customer leaves, but in front of the customer I try to be all smiles and helpful.
I also was amazed because this was the first time in the times I've talked to Alienware that they've admitted they can send tech support to me. Heck last week I spent two hours trouble shooting my computer with someone on the phone and I would've LOVED if they had just someone over....
So long story short- I don't have my hard drive... which Chris ( and Alienware customer support) have both told me is better. I should have it next week... and hopefully installed that week by an Alienware tech( for free).
Other computer stuff- Did buy a 200 gig external hard drive last week from Best Buy. Plan to back up my 'new' computer every week or so... As while I only lost three weeks of info, that's a) still too much and b) included a big[ 8 meg] patch for Civ IV.
Am *thinking* of dsl or cable modem for the new year... as while I think I don't *need* it, it would be nice if I could afford it. However not sure if I'll swing this before May as DC heroclix are coming out in Feb. and the mother of all PotA collections is coming out in March.
Planet of the Apes- was very interested in the Ape news in the past month. They are coming out with the mother of all PotA collections in March. It includes all 5 of the orginal movies( which I never bought as I got them on Laser Discs), The new movie( bleh), the Live Action TV series... and the thing that I really want- the animated tv show.
It would mean selling the live action TV show but since I never bought the DVDs, I think I'm going to try and buy it. Oh and it comes in a package that looks like Ceasar from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.
Star Wars- I just want to say( though I think I have) that I see the orginal 3 on a semi regular basis at work and the more I watch them, the more I want to beat up Lucas... because they make *NO* sense.
Example 1- In SW IV- We know Luke tried to join the Empire to be a fighter pilot. You'd figure that a) a Skywalker from Tattonie would raise some red flags in the Empire's data base b) they'd have a blood test for mediclorines in ALL imperial job applications.
Example 2- In RotJ, Luke asks Leia if she remembers her REAL mom. Leia says yes. That while her mom died when she was very young[ like child birth] she did remember mom as images. Wow. good memory Leia.
Exercise- I was sick last week so didn't go to the gym. I did force myself on Monday to go... and got back into the swing of things. I still managed to lose a couple of lbs. last week even with no gym and a bit of snacking. Down 30 lbs. total( not 'near 30' but actually 30) and two pants sizes.
I think that's it as I want to check the price on Amazon of PotA and do a bit of surfing before my time is up. I did however find out that I can log in NEAR work- not from work computer's but a library in the building, so should be able to check mail on lunch breaks.
