Yesterday...
I started the day pretty darn cranky. I have ONE ass't manager (La) and one supervisor I like(T) and I KNEW La was going to be off yesterday. Which made me worried as I really hate Ass't Manager K.
I feel I should also mention that part of what added to my depression Saturday morning is the fact that I lost it friday night with K and Manager M. I blew off steam by letting La know how pissed I was- I made sure that she knew that I wasn't mad at HER but with them... esp as we have a meeting scheduled next monday( the 7th) after work... and I gotta say, if it was possible I'd show up good and hung over for the meeting but that would mean being hung over for all of next monday.
What happened was on like Thrusday( might have been wednesday- not sure), we were freaking busy and K. calls me off my register, he tells me he doesn't know how to take care of a phone order and asks me to do it. I roll my eyes because a) he's been there over two weeks and should know this crap- esp. as he's management and b) they are trying (again) to make us responsible for 'our' registers. Meaning if I ring at a register- I should be the only one ringing on it, so at the end of the night if it's off they know who made the mistake. I could go on for a while about how stupid this is- but for now I'll just point out that this is one of the cases where things fall down as I had to give K my register so he could keep ringing and then ring on another register near a phone.
I took the order- of a $50 gift certificate, then I went to get an envelop... and K took it from me, he said HE'D finish things up and I should get back to ringing. I thought this was pretty scuzzy as this got him out of ringing and off the floor for a couple of min. as he brought it downstairs.
I need to focus on that last part for a moment "... brought it downstairs." See when we take phone orders, we need to bring it down to receiving, for it to be mailed out UPS. Or at least EVERYONE BUT K brings phone orders downstairs. Apparently part of his lack of training means he didn't bring it downstairs. I noticed this friday night as I was going to the backroom for some reason or another and found on the door to the manager's office- the gift certificate and paperwork.
I call La and show her this... I tell her I'm pissed because ages ago M asked me if the store had a communication problem... and I without missing a beat said yes. I didn't tell him EVERYONE knows we have a problem, but I did give an example which I felt wouldn't reflect poorly on him... However even then he got defensive and challanged my example... adding to the communication problem as I feel less likely to tell him when there's problems. K should be trained by this point....
And I also let her know that I'm pissed because the meeting that's going to be taking place isn't going to be about any REAL problems at the store... but M, K and Lm telling us peons to SELL!~ and what THEY consider problems with us.
See M on Friday also set what I consider 'groundwork' for the meeting- he had all of us re-sign stuff saying that a) Not dressing in proper outfits is a deal breaker- and reason to get rid of us and b) the form saying that if we miss like 4 days in a 90 day period, management has the option of firing us.
I should mention that a) Lm calls out more then me- heck after not being able to get someone to cover for him last holloween he called out and b) management can VOTE to decide if we have truely earnt the points to get rid of us. So do you really think that M, K and Lm are going to vote to get rid of Lm? I think not...
So I figure the paperwork means the meeting is going to be M going after us and trying to keep us in line as opposed to actually solving any store problems.
Anyway, getting back to yesterday, I spent the morning checking out prices for hotels in Vegas which just made me depressed as like the cheapest I found was about a thousand dollars- which I felt a bit too much just for a room... esp. as I consider the room cost to be the 'entry fee' to the trip. It's the money I HAVE to pay before I pay for food, entertainment( which includes shows and gambling) and drinks- as I intended to see some nightlife.
I ended up thinking maybe I should cancel my 40th- and spend my 'time off' looking for a REAL JOB instead of wasting money in Vegas.
I was sooo grumpy going to work that not even eating at Popeye's cheered me up that much. That's right... the GREATEST fast food franchise has re-opened here in Boston- less then a mile or so away from me. So thus far I've made an 'exception' to my fast food rules and had popeye's like 3 times since they've opened... which isn't alot but like a zillion times more then Wendy's( as anything times zero is zero).
I got to work and I found out K had opened, Lm had called in sick and thus I was closing with M. Of the three, I prefered this so I was ok and started to try to get out of grumpiness... this was helped by the fact that instead of being at the main registers, I was off to the side... so I had less of a line to deal with. Also helping was that the person who I was ringing with was someone who I liked( she likes Daria and Clone High)....
I even started thinking that maybe I could manage the hotel prices, and that I should before I make any decisions go to a travel agency to see if they could get me any deals( did check out hotels.com and no love there).
I also was 'happy' because even though it was just me and M for an hour and a 1/2( they REALLY have to hire people who can/will work saturday nights)... it was dead slow. I much prefer slow to busy. Most of my co-workers like the other way as they feel time goes faster when they're busy.... Me I know I get stressed by the noise and trying to get people OUT.
So even though we were short handed, I got out of work early- which totally doesn't suck and I decided to play M:UA on the xbox 360. I had a NEED to play as this week they FINALLY came out with the extra characters... and the first time I played the game disk skipped and I lost ALL my data. So on Friday I bought a cd cleaning kit. I started by just using a cloth on the Marvel disk- but figured better to have cleaning solution JUST IN CASE. The disk works, though I made sure to save a bit more this time.
And then...
And then...
And then.... After a mega attack the graphics started failing. I was like... PLEASE let me get to the next save point( was playing a mission disk so had to finish what I was doing to get to a save point)... So I get to the save point... and I'm like thinking I'm going to have to clean the disk tomorrow OR F! maybe something's wrong with the 360. It would suck if something was wrong with the 360.
Then I switch to my tv... and I notice that my TV has the same visual problem.
So now I'm thinking again of canning the Vegas trip... as if my tv is having ghost images when I watch cable and tv.... maybe it's the tv.
Though now that I think about this... the last time my tv had problems it turned out to be something simple as the power cord. I mean my cord is less then a year old... but I'm going to hope it's the power cord.
Sorry if this is soooo long- but it was worth it, if for no other reason- I hadn't thought about the power cord until I typed the above.
