Good News!

Ok.
Because of my computer being wonky I am way behind in blogging and who knows what WOULD’VE been blogged that was ‘lost to the ages’… However I feel that what happened today trumps my thanksgiving and Xbox woes. So I will just say: T-day shenanigans- both my step brother and older brother got engaged that week; step on that Monday, older on Tuesday. Xbox- spent 77 min on the phone yesterday to find out that they sent the ‘repaired’ Xbox to my home yesterday instead of the game store… So I won’t get it until Tuesday (next day off).
Ah but the good news. Yesterday I asked Adj to help me write a cover letter to a job. It’s a new retail company that sells used electronic equipment. They’re a growing concern in the U.K. and the Boston store is their first store. The manager was sooo impressed with Adj’s letter that he said he’d like to interview me. I called in sick today as I had a crappy schedule (11am to 8pm) and didn’t see a way to finagle an interview before or after that time period. Then since the store didn't have a land line and so I wasn't able to figure out WHEN to show up- I just went over there. The manager was able to make time for me, and we had about an hour interview which I think went pretty well.
I then came home and bugged Adj to help me write a thank you letter.
Adj did such a good job that the guy hired her… I mean me ;-)
It comes with a probationary period… which drove my mom a bit nuts. I in fact called her before accepting. She seemed to think that perhaps that might use me as holiday help and then get rid of me. I decided to joke with the manager about it… saying that I knew this was s.o.p but wanted to put my mom’s mind at ease. He said the probation was indeed s.o.p. as if they just wanted me for the holidays, they would’ve said so and I would just get a month of work out of them. My mom was a bit upset that I put the words in her mouth but I figured it was the way to shut her up so I didn't hear about HER fears and have them become mine.
So
CONS: the fact that for 3 months- during the probation, I’ll be making LESS then the gift store- and have NO benefits.
Pros: Won’t be working at the gift store and odds are will get a discount on the used vid games/dvds/video cards the store sells( didn’t ask about the discount as it was in no way shape or form a deal breaker)… Though perhaps my discount also will be deferred until after my probation( for fear that I’d take the job just to get a x-mas discount on crap)…
And AFTER my probation- will have FULL medical coverage… and a bit of a raise as well.
So on the forth night of Hannuka( and my Dad’s B’day), I’m a pretty happy camper because I’m getting the frell out of the gift store and going to a store that I think will be more amusing.
Then again odds are in 5 months the bloom will be off the rose and I’ll be depressed because I’m still in retail. But I’m not going to let that get to me NOW.
( though I do feel I need to also say: Jan trip to Toronto isn’t happening now. I figured it wasn’t going to happen because of my computer problems and lack of planning on my part due to not being able to check things out on the computer… but I’m not going to be able to get a week off after just starting a new job.)
