Marvel Rant

Last week I blogged about my anger at DC, so being an equal opportunity hater- I figured I’d blog about my dislike of Marvel.
Well this is and isn’t about Marvel- It’s really a rand about Brian Michael Bendi, but as he writes MOST of the big ticket Marvel Comics… I think they’re interchangeable at this point.
I was reading Wizard 200- and there was an article WRITTEN by BMB. So this is a professional comic book writer, writing in a ‘professional’ trade magazine. The article is about Secret Invasion- a comic that Bendis is writing and Wizard subtitled the article “Brian Michael Bendis gives the 411 on the shocking ending to issue #1.” We also see a picture of the ‘shocking ending’ which had a bunch of 70’s era Marvel guys and gals coming out of a space ship.
Bendis then gives a paragraph about EACH of the superheroes in the shot and his ‘take’ on things.
His Sue Storm paragraph reads thusly:
Sue Storm: Poor Reed. Reed to the Skrulls is Osama Bin Laden. They don’t hate mankind. They don’t hate the Earth. They hate Reed Richards. Reed Richards turned them into cows. They would have Reed Richard toilet paper and dart boards. On top of whatever plan they’re having… did they give him a fake wife? They really have a thing for him. They gave him Skrull crabs. They gave him Skrull gonorrhea.

Really Bendis; Skrull crabs for their Osama Bin Laden? Because if it were ME, and I was an advance race of shape shifters- I think I could come up with something a LITTLE better then giving my MOST HATED FOE crabs. Especially as, Reed Richards being smarter then MY scientists… odds are that Reed is going to find a CURE for Skrull crabs in like 10 minutes.
I think what gets me about the above quote is that it was said by the WRITER of Secret Invasion… not just a fanboy giggling to himself, and friends, when he thinks of the possibility of Sue being a Skrull… and that Bendis thought that this was PUBLISHIBLE- which I guess Wizard agreed with him, and again this wasn’t said in say a private meeting where Bendis and other writers were just shooting the breeze and being silly. Bendis thought that Skrull crabs was both funny and professional enough to be published- and Wizard Magazine agreed with him- as they did publish it.

Oh and I feel I should also mention that in the description BEFORE Sue, about Wonder Man, he mentions “ …[Wonder Man] literally bursts mysteriously out of Scarlet Witch’s crazy vagina. “
