Hitch jacked....
Got free tix to Hitchhiker's. This was the movie I was looking forward to this summer. I thought that it would be simple to do a big movie on it... I mean BBC had done a bang up job with the mini, I figured Hollywood could do as good a job with the movie.
I knew they were changing the look of Zaphod, so that his heads wouldn't both be seen at once... So gone would be "...Of course when I met him he only had the one head and two arms" but also missing was Ford's surprise at Arthur knowing Zaphod.
But they left alot of the plot on the cutting room floor and replaced it with a romance story between Arthur and Trillian... which I didn't like. The book really is about Arthur trying to cope with his new reality with a british stiff upper lip. It's like Job but funny and in space.
Heck, won't spoil it tooo much but it ends with Arthur actually looking FORWARD to new adventures with Trilly.
If Sin City was 95% based on the comic, this was about 20% based on the book- if that.
Pity.
The only really good things were the voices of Fry as the book and Alan Rickman as Marvin and the apperence of the Marvin from the mini series.

I never had love for the book. Didn't appreciate Brit humour or writing 'til my twenties unless it was Python; read Hitchhiker's in my teens. Still, I'm sorry it wasn't all you'd hoped
