Law V. Crime

So I just saw a repeat of CSI that synched up with the episode of Law and Order that DROVE me away from L&O.
The Law and Order episode was 'ripped from the headlines' and that's how they sold it. As I didn't see the CSI episode til reruns I have no IDEA how they advertised it.
The event that was 'ripped from the headlines' was a true story of a woman, in TX, who was on drugs hit a homeless man while driving. He went thru the front windsheild... and she drove home. He was still alive and bleeding out. She left him in the car window to die and then called a freind, another 'party girl' who helped her bury the guy. The freind, being a party girl, eventually told the wrong person and the driver got busted.

In the Law & Order episode, the homeless guy was hit by a yuppie business lady. You have to understand that to have someplace PRIVATE to park the car in NYC, you have to be very money. It's then pointed out IN THE JUDGE'S CHAMBERS that the homeless guy had a blow to the head that would've killed him anyway... McCoy( the Order of Law and Order) points out that this knowedge does NOT alter the fact that she killed the bum... If you jump from a building and someone shoots at you--- killing you then it doesn't matter that you were trying to commit sucide the shooter shot you dead. The judge disagreed, and pled the yuppie out. McCoy and Co. out for JUSTICE try to find out who delievered the killing blow and put another homeless guy on trail for getting into a fight with the dead homeless guy.
I was appalled at this... as this was a SEVERE change in the story and let the rich yuppie off the hook, trying to put the blame on another homeless...

I just saw the CSI episode and was much more pleased with the ending. As we learn the story- it was a high end car that was sort of easy to trace( same as the L&O as they only have SOO much time to work the case), they trace it to a newly minted lawyer. It turns out that he had his first day with the law firm... got drunk and hit the guy. He then drove home to sober up and would've THEN brought the guy in... but the victim woke up, so the lawyer let him die.
The hook, and it was a total 180 from the L&O episode, was that in the last minuite or so of the episode a sucide note in the victim's stuff.... So the victim had INTENTIONALLY wanted to be hit, and had the lawyer 'done right by the law', he wouldn't've been in any trouble... but beause this is CSI where intent MEANS something- the guy is going to jail for Murder... and rightly so.

I really liked the CSI soo much better because a bad person got what was coming to them and the moral of the story was- be good. The moral of the L&O show seemed to be the moral of the OJ case, if you have money to get lawyers- you have a much better chance of getting a good ruling.
