Pope pail
Ok, here's the story... Yes I think Ratzinger is bad for pope because he used to be a member of the Hitler youth AND a Nazi, but as I talked to an ex-catholic it was pointed out to me that he's done other bad stuff more recently.
One of the things he did which pisses me off, is he was the one calling for Kerry to go to HELL! during the 2004 election. Basically he was saying Kerry should NOT get communion because he is pro choice. Now I think this is wrong on SOOO many levels and is one of the reasons I don't believe in organized religion. Heck, I find this ironic as it helped Bush the NON catholic win.
Then there's the pedophilia problem *MANY* people have with the church. Well I'm glad to say that the new pope knows WHO'S to blame for the pedophilia crisis here in the U.S.- the Media. Yup, he's firm in the belief that the media is on a witch hunt here... and going after POOR innocent priest....
AND here's a link pointing out that he wholely approves of the way Law handled things- by covering it up.
did I mention here that many of my friends and myself were made a little sick by the fact that Cardinal Law was allowed to vote for the new pope? Because we were.
Oh and I have to mention I find it very ironic that my 'springtime for the inquisition' was sooo on the money as Ratzinger was head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith - the office which ran the Inquisition in the Middle Ages.
I also want to mention that his first press conference was interesting in the fact that he didn't speak in Spanish... even though most catholics speak Spanish, because Spain has allowed gay marriage, he didn't answer ANY questions because he pointed out that the press corps was there to do G-D's work... and a reporter points out, heck most of them aren't catholic.
So I'm hoping, not too secretly, that sometime soon the American church will split off from the roman catholics. It's a little dream I have. I just feel that Ratzinger will make the church LESS relevant and I'd like people to do something about it- but I'm a dyed in the wool liberal who believe religious leaders can be female, SHOULD BE married to understand their flock, and open to their congregation.
( and for Carolyn- I got 209,000 hits on google for "Ratzinger nazi" compared to the 16,600 for "Ratzinger pedophile"[ to look for the story about HIS views about the pedophile incidents and the church]. )
