Work Rant...
My current job isn’t nearly as bad as Staples, and thus I have no fear that I’ll quit before I get my NEXT job… that said I feel a burning need to rant about how my manager at the gift store M. and supervisor L are treating me.
L. was the one who had the birthday party which I went to with M. L came in on Thursday, his day off, with his sister whom had hosted the party and others. M went to talk to L and his friends. I waited nearby, waiting for a pause so I could tell L’s sister what a good time I had at her house. However before I was able to say anything- L mentioned TPMs and M asked me how many of the boomerangs I had sold that day. I knew I was being dismissed and so I left without saying anything to the sister.
On Friday, L seemed to be having a bad day and taking it out on me. Any time he caught me chatting with someone or taking a breather- TPM.
However the thing that really made me go Huh? was that the manager came up to me and apologized for being dismissive of me. I at first was happy that he was apologizing for sending me away on Thursday- but apparently he was apologizing because he was throwing a party NEXT Saturday and not inviting me.
This made me doubly pissed as I first thought he was actually going to apologize and second that he wasn’t inviting me. Rather then tell him my true feelings, I pointed out that I was going to a wedding next Saturday (which I am) and thus wouldn’t be able to attend- even if I was invited. M went on to point out that there would be NO WAY for me to get to his house as I couldn’t take public transportation there… and I only ½ listened to that… as I felt I wouldn’t go even if invited. Though that said he then told other people, in earshot of me, that they could camp out in his backyard.
So I figure I prolly could get to his place if I was able to get one of my INVITED co-workers to drive… but a) the wedding is going to be far more fun and b) if I didn’t have the wedding- I’d be working and there’d be too many hoops to jump through to go.
So not liking my boss, and miffed that apparently he socializes with L (whom got promoted over me) and not me.
Finally on work- I find their methods of motivating me to sell the boomerangs to be rather crappy. My manager constantly asks me how many I’ve sold and wants to get the number up… my supervisor keeps mentioning TMP and another manager mentioned my commission. The problem with the commission and most ‘tricks’ is I know the math. I know that the item sells for $6.99. I know that the inventor gets $1.20 and I know that I get my .35 from the inventor- NOT from the gift store (who does pay my salary). So I know that for every 35 cents I get, the gift store gets $5.79 which is 1654% more then me. Yes I’d like the extra 35 cents per boomerang, but I’m not gonna kill myself for it; esp. as I get my base salary regardless of how many boomerangs I sell.
