And nothing is easy....
Ok I got a coupon from EA games for $15 off my next purchase from their web site which would be like 40% off Sims 2 University... which I'm totally digging. I go to their website and find out that I can also get free shipping for pre-ordering Sims 2 U. Which has me TOTALLY stoked, because that just is more saving.
Of course this doesn't work... because my life doesn't work that way. Too easy. It says that it accepts both codes, but when I get to the next part of check out only the free shipping shows up. So I hit the back button on Netscape. Try it again. and it says there's a problem with the code. So I cancel the order and try again... but it remembers the free shipping so STILL won't give me the $15 off.
I figure it's better to place the order and then get them to fix it, then to wait and have the coupon expire. So I emailed them and told them the coupon code, and mentioned that if I can't get the $15 off- then I wanted to cancel the order.
I just found it normal to my life that things don't work as easy as I think they should.
Update( 6:30pm) Ok even though I'm like 90% certain that the site told me I could enter more then ONE code[ as you can on Amazon], the email they send me says
So apparently EA decided that they were ALREADY gonna get my money and didn't need to be nice to me. CRAP. I've posted my anger at this on the modthesims bulletin board and the 'official' EA BBS. I didn't mention on either one but I'll say here I'm tempted to try and ask friends to steer me to 'bootlegged' Sims University... as I'm just unhappy with giving them my money after pulling this sort of crap.
And while writing this... I got a confirmation on my modthesims thread that this had happened to someone ELSE. I was hoping that by posting these threads I could guilt EA into giving me another $15 coupon... but now I doubt it.
[update-Feb 28] Ok again because it's me, things are a mixed bag. On the one hand they sent me another coupon for $15 which worked. So that was sorta good. On the other hand- on Saturday I cancelled the 'free shipping order'... or at least I *tried* to cancel it. I was told I'd hear from EA within 24 hours about the cancellation( there was no simple cancel order button or stuff like Amazon has), about 25 hours later- I got an order confirmation. So I re-wrote to them, pointing that I was trying to cancel this PRE order- that the game has NOT been shipped yet by their own admission.
So what they told me was to NOT accept the UPS shipping of this package. HOWEVER the can of worms there, is figuring out which package to sign for and which one NOT to sign for... as I'll be getting two packages.
Oh and I was right- while putting in the SECOND coupon on Sunday... I saw and copied these prompts from their web site.
When I put my credit card in, on the same page I got this message:
And AFTER I put in the $15 code I then got the following message:
So EA- not good people to do business with on their website. They make good games but suck as a business. And that's without bringing up their monopoly on Football games( I'm against monopolies)
[update: late 2/28] well they refuse to stop the first order. They say I should just refuse it from UPS. ugh. And of course I have *NO* clue if I'll be able to figure out the difference between the two packages.
I did NOT need this stress and plan NEVER to use their website... esp as there's no real area to complain.

We apologize but two promotions or offers cannot be
used in one order. Also, generally speaking,
multiple codes may not be used to purchase one game.
Additionally, only one coupon code can be used per
order and only once. Moreover, a coupon code used
once (even if the order is not complete) cannot be
used again.

Enter your Gift Card or Coupon Code here, and click continue to apply. If you have multiple Gift Cards or Coupon Codes, then enter them one at a time and click continue.
And AFTER I put in the $15 code I then got the following message:
