Little Feedback, Kay?

I posted this for about a day two weeks ago----

A. First, recommend to me:
1. A movie:
2. A book:
3. A musical artist, song, or album:

B. Ask me three questions, no more, no less. You may ask me anything you want (however, I reserve the right to weasel out of answering if I feel its necessary!).

C. Copy and paste this in your blog.

It's from Evan's blog, natch.

The reason I put it up is I thought it was a good idea- though didn't want to be as demanding as Evan( NO LURKING!). I took it down because while I'd like to know if anybody's out there- reading my rants and thoughts... I fear *NO* one is out there. Since I'm a "social blogger" ;-) I'm sorta scared that no one will respond. BUT it's a good idea... and if I don't get any response... I'll prolly delete this again.

don't hit the self-destruct yet, drew hehehehehehehe-sorry, I often get a chance to scope out your musings when I am reading through friends' journals and I should have given you some feedback before-mostly I figured I had nothing to add as we are two very diff kind of political animals and I can see that is truly near & dear to your heart, but I do enjoy reading your views nonetheless;-D alas, you seem to have softened up, must be that disgusting social blogger aspect hahahahahahahahaha because some of your posts have actually turned towards a less elitist tide and even us slow folk could comment on those-so I offer this tiny trinket!!

movie: omg so many to choose from, luckily something alanic sprung to mind re: your recent mentions of comedy teams-I'm gonna say "dance with me, henry"-which in case you are not familiar, was abbott & costello's last film and though popularly panned, I have always found it to be just about my fave of theirs;-D

hmm what's next...book: ghosts of tsavo: stalking the mystery lions of east africa by phil caputo-really excellent storytelling combined with cool science-starts with the infamous colonel patterson's odyssey with the marauding man-eaters (what the film ghost & the darkness was based on?) and relates some wicked "campfire" true tales while the reporter leads up to the latest studies from the field museum-wow, I so want to go there, but I am digressing now hehehehehehehehe

ahem, back on track-music: again, where dost thou draw the line on so many genres to choose from? I'll go with what I was listening to earlier-corky & the juice pigs, either album, though I think my fave track would have to be "gay eskimo", though "dolphin boy" is pretty snazzy too-for the electic canadian in us all

    quest for quests:

1- I have to reread your galactica entry, but did you ever watch it (the new one)? I am a fan of the old and wasn't highly inclined to care about the revamp, but I thought I would check it out-the movie/pilot was okay, enjoyable, a few nice touches, nothing to go ga ga over-decided to check out the series when it started-really really is so much better than the pilot-I am kinda surprised I am liking it so much but it is fairly rich-I don't luff all the characters (like starbuck-she aint no dirk benedict)-but it's surprisingly good scifi-so my quest is along the lines of what your argument was, with the prez rewriting the pop #, of which I def need to check it again cuz I forgot exactly what I wanted to say, so pause on this one;-D
2- what did you do when you interned for DC? trs cool!!

3- what's your fave thing to order at friendly's?

**there, how's that? nice long-winded nonsensical responses for you, I hope this quells your ego;-D - carolyn

Well I'm glad you read my stuff caroline. I will admit my first reaction on being called 'elitist' was to get defensive but checked myself... as I'm a New Yorker and will admit that I've looked down on Boston for not being NYC many times.
Heck I remember driving arround Ca. and realizing more people lived on my block then a TOWN in Ca. So there it is. However by all means like the Battlestar Galactica, call me on it when I get too elitist. I feel one of the best ways to examine my own views is to talk to people who have different views. That said- talking to a freind, I realized that being a New York jew makes me an elitist to much of the country 8-P

Never saw Dance with me Henry, though Hold that Ghost- which was different from their usual movies is one of my faves. So just put Dance with me Henry on my amazon want list- esp as a new version is due shortly before my b'day.

Ghost of Tsavo... sounds interesting and not on my usual beaten path- if it's anything like the moon by whalelight- a collection of nature stories, I'll enjoy it. I do try to these days to try new stuff.

And being a doctor demento fan- I have Gay Eskimo on his 30th anniversery double set( I even get excited when I see the north pole...)

    Now to the questions:

    1) To quisi answer your quisi question. ;-) The president's board is in the first episode 33. I have NOT seen a full episode from beginning to end. I've sampled several episodes. I have talked to a freind who has watched them ALL( the whole season has already aired in England). He feels that based on the tone of the show- the humans should end up dying at the end of the show. He says it's well made but doesn't really recommend it as like me he doesn't like the tone of the show.( and he's the one who told me about the mormomism of the first show)
So right now it's on against Monk( friday 10pm) and Monk wins.
Or perhaps I can better answer by pointing to my more recent rant of remakes from h!e!l!l!- my problem with Galactica is it doesn't capture what I consider the essence of the original Galactica. They've changed it to make it more 'edgy' and 'fresh' and lost what I consider Galactica was about- which was a Sci Fi story of hope. There was a family bond not only between Adama and his son Apollo- but Starbuck and Boomer were also 'family'... and boxy well boxy also helped the show.
And Balter was a wonderful EVIl villain with Jonathan (no relation) Harris as his sidekick.
So I prolly would be more prone to give this new show a break- IF they had named it something else.... as it is by NAMING it Battlestar Galactica, one is forced to compare the two shows and the other one seems better. *shrug* Hope that sort of answers things- if not let me know and I'll try to do better.

    2) First since it was only my second paying job- I goofed off too much and I read comics from their library. They had a good bunch of comics bound to be used as reference.
My job actually consisted of sending out paperwork( that's how I found out barbara randall with Karl Kessel) artwork and scripts to artists and writers. I did a lot of copying( in fact my desk was right next to the copier.) I also answered phones.
It really was sort of an office job- BUT it was for DC. Like my last day I had to lug a bunch of hardcover books for an author to sign. However the story sounds better when I mention the author was Frank Miller, who was on honeymoon, and I got him to sign a dark knight to ME personally.
What I did was normal office work but it gets bumped to a factor of 1,000 because of the people I worked with- Dennis O'Neil, Greg Weisman, Barbara Randell, and even talking to Paul Levitz in the hallway. Then again what other office would someone get happy( barbara) because she was able to snap two peoples suspenders at the same time( mine and dennis).

    3) I haven't gone to freindly's in years. While there are 2 Freindly's on the Boston train system, neither are on my way to anything else.
So to change slightly- the thing I order most is the Wendy's Spicy Chicken sandwich meal with fries and a dr. pepper. I always ask for the chipotle sauce and smear that on the sandwich. And when I remember it I ask for no lettuce, add onions. And too many times I 'biggie size it' which biggie sizes me.

Thanx for the questions carolyn. And I hope you comment to the stuff that interests YOU in the future( the non elitist poli stuff)
and evan.....you saying you have to 'work' on your question intrigues and worries me ;-) I first wanted to say that I remember that the cut and paste mentions weaseling out, but would prefer you to answer whatever 3 questions YOU want to ask. It'll be interesting to see what you want to ask- so take your time...

realized after I posted slight typo-

( that's how I found out barbara randall with Karl Kessel)

should be that's you I found out barbara randall WAS with Karl Kessll. and to complete that thought basically after I started I had to start sending her invoices to the same address as his... and to finish the story they got married and she's now Barbara Kessell.
